For many students, the first year of Secondary School is a time of great change. Year 7 brings new routines, teachers, friendships, and responsibilities. For every student, a new stage in their schooling is an opportunity to develop a sense of competence and self‐worth. At JPC, making this transition smooth is not about removing the obstacle itself but instead about giving our students the skills to manage the change.

    Year 7 Curriculum

In Year 7, students study a broad range of subjects, following the Australian curriculum, as they develop subject-specific skills and make links across and between disciplines. We encourage innovative thinking in all learning areas and encourage skills in creativity, design thinking, problem-solving and reflection.

    2024 Year 7 Subject Selection

Students in Year 7 at John Paul College create their own personalised Junior Education and Training Plan (JETPlan). The JETPlan provides a diverse and comprehensive learning program for students ages 7 and 8. It lays the groundwork for a student's academic and personal growth. It allows students to explore their interests, build a strong knowledge base, and make informed decisions about their future pathways as they progress to their senior years.

Students in Years 7 and 8 will study various compulsory JETPlan subjects. They will also be immersed in two JETPlan elective subjects each semester. JETPlan elective subjects have been designed to build a strong knowledge base in The Arts, Technologies and Languages to supplement the JETPlan compulsory subjects and ensure all students experience all learning areas in the Australian Curriculum.

    Camp

Students in Year 7 enjoy a camping trip to Tallebudgera, where they test their bravery and persistence in various activities. The activities aim to demonstrate their social awareness, integrity, and kindness as they continue to build on their relationships with their peers, teachers and instructors in their first year of Secondary School.

    What our students say

We asked some Year 7 students about their Secondary School experience to date. They provided very insightful advice to current Year 6 students about their transition.
