Dennis Lin Taiwan born, Dennis Lin has over twenty years of professional practice across mergers and acquisitions (M&A) (financial and legal), taxation and corporate finance. Dennis regularly switches hats to fulfil the numerous executive roles he possesses. A student from the Class of 1997, Dennis came from a high-achieving cohort, with successful Alumni currently all around the world doing remarkable things in their fields. Dennis is no different, exhibiting a long list of achievements and roles in business. His fondest memories at JPC vary from his solo violin performance in front of Dame Joan Sutherland, the 1995 Europe Music Tour, which saw him play the violin in Italy, to the last day of school comradery. He also cites his naivety in joining the interhouse swimming carnival festivities, despite not knowing how to swim at the time. But the best part of that day was the support he received to swim to the finish line - assisted by his peers. A standing ovation and cheer filled the Chandler Pool stadium when he did. That underlying good spirit and determination still stay with him today! He credits the teachers, particularly his English teacher, who gave him the confidence that he could one day study law even though it was his second language. He also became fond of accounting, which soon became the two major pillars significant to his current career path. The cultural diversity and inclusion at JPC also gave Dennis the comfort and confidence to be himself and develop his skills in different languages. He had the opportunity to speak in his native tongue (Mandarin) and learn both English and Japanese fluently during his time at JPC; a skill that put him in good stead when talking to international businesses. When Dennis graduated, he studied a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Queensland based on the skills and passion he found at JPC. After some time in the professional workforce, Dennis became curious about creating better health and wellbeing through nutrition. He has lost over 20kgs in the past two years and has found a passion for maintaining a positive wellbeing. Dennis specialises in commercial transactions, M&A, and capital marketing activities between Chinese and Australian businesses, with a particular focus on agriculture and consumer goods. He wears several hats in the international business industry including Executive Chairman of Bubs Australia Limited (an ASX300 company in food, particularly baby and toddler nutrition), Executive Director of Health and Plant Protein Group Limited (a listed company which is also one of the largest macadamia businesses in North America), and Co-Founder and Chairman of Cortina Capital (a business invested in health and wellbeing businesses to work with founders). ‘I learn from all walks of life - there is as much to learn from those that succeeded as well as those who failed, whether they are mentioned in the media often or someone I meet by chance in an uber or taxi,’ says Dennis. But it’s also the simple things in life which Dennis enjoys, such as playing the violin with his daughter and tennis with his son, as well as catching up with fellow Alumni, in between travel visits to maintain his lifelong friendships. Class of 1997 Executive Chairman of Bubs Australia Limited, Executive Director of Health and Plant Protein Group Limited and Co-Founder and Chairman of Cortina Capital PAGE 8
