Jukambi Sports Precinct - Timelapse

Forty years ago, our founding families and clergy dreamt of a school that would deliver a contemporary co-education grounded in traditional values, underpinned by a spirit of excellence.

We continue this dream, through the help of our Building for Our Kids Committee, which will see the development of a home of sporting excellence for our court sports. The covered multi-purpose court precinct will ensure all-year training facilities and much-needed additional court space to prepare the next generation of elite athletes and the growth of our co-curricular sports program.

The Jukambi Sports Precinct will see the Jukambi Oval transformed into:

  • two covered multi-use courts for basketball, netball and volleyball
  • six world-class tennis courts
  • kiosk, BBQ area and gathering space
  • four change rooms and additional toilet and shower facilities
  • spectator seating and
  • a sport turf field.

The Precinct has been designed to integrate as seamlessly as possible into the contours of the land while paying respect to the traditional custodians of this land, the Yugambeh and Yuggera people. JPC has a deep commitment to honour and acknowledge indigenous perspectives, history and culture.

The design of this project reflects JPC's commitment to these histories and cultures, and the design has been inspired by the indigenous heritage of the area, including the eagle, plants, landscape and the importance of sustainability in our future.

A totem is a natural object, plant or animal that is inherited by members of a clan or family as their spiritual emblem. Totems define peoples' roles and responsibilities, and their relationships with each other and creation. The Mibunn, or Wedgetail eagle, is represented in the totems of both the Yugambeh and Yuggera people.

The Eagle is a powerful symbol within the John Paul College family as it represents the 'soaring' capabilities of our students during their time at JPC and throughout their lives after graduation.

The rooftop of the structure features a cantilever roof that lifts out of the contours of the land like an outstretched wing. The roof sheeting features defined peaks with a bronze, Colourbond finish which will shimmer like feathers in the sun.

The cantilever frame has a focus on sustainability and has been responsibly sourced and produced utilising cross-laminated timber frames for strength and stability while honouring the natural plants and landscapes of the area.

The facilities will feature a natural colour pallet throughout to allow them to blend in with the natural landscape of the Jukambi Oval and surround while also creating a powerful silhouette of this amazing new facility.

The College would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals who have contributed to making this dream a reality. Our generous donors, visionary architects, talented builders and dedicated staff members have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition.
